ELASTOMANIA IS NOT A COMPUTER GAME wtf? elastomania not a game ? i was starting to write an article about what makes elma so great , and suddenly i realized that elastomania is not a game! To explain this the best way i suggest u read the article first: __________________________ WHAT MAKES ELASTOMANIA TEH GAME OF TEH FUTURE well most kuskit know that elma is teh best game there is so far , and basically teh game of teh future is a development of teh best game there is . well probably there will be many games that are based on some elma features , and maybe they will be better (for example the way elma is better than across , but of course that's subjective) . but still elma\across will be legendary . because of all the great things about it , and if not - still it caused this elma society , which probably considers the game legendary already . now maybe u wonder what makes elma teh best game ? i think mange had some good points in his article (Elma vs. Other Computer Games), but i also have my own thoughts . - game feel it's based on a physical model . seems quite simple , but still it's very complex . the thing is that the bike moves are based on a few factors (volt , supervolt , gas/no gas/break - how many wheels touch the ground , the angle of the ground , gravity , etc , etc) . and all these factors affect eachother . it makes the acceleration very complex , and to be succesful u have to find a lot of secrets of how to gain speed and not lose speed . thus the actual movement of teh bike is much more advanced than most computer games . this gives an awesome "feel" when u play elma , and also a great variety of styles . - variety of levels u can make thousands of different levels . look at how many levels there are , and still most levels are based on the normal "get apples and get best time" concept . but moposite for example , has other kinds of levels (check their special and internal contests) which could have as many variations as normal levels . now not only can u make this many levels , but also the editor gives a freedom to make them as u , along with fucking great precision . u probably know that there are many styles of levels (bartek's , ciph's , timmo's , etc) , the possibilibity to many styles is much to the editor, which gives so much freedom in level making (it's vector based) . - graphics not only can u make ur own levels , also u can make ur own graphics (lgrs). i'm not very into it but but i know some ppl think that this should not be not be developed . i dont understand what makes it worse with higher detailed lgrs . and why not make 3D graphics (3D-replays for example) , or animated turns (change direction) , death's , etc . i think it's good that elma doesn't need it , but why stop it ? - competition there are many ways to compete in elma . internals , cups , battles , the league , etc . and new kinds of competitions come all the time . - society i know other games have chat channels and web pages and so and i think it's a great idea . a bad thing tho is that some ppl want a kind of authority for some control , like they would know better what's right or wrong than anything else . i have experience from having a chat channel , and the only problem with giving authority to everyone was that ppl that weren't regulars a couple of times took full control (meaning took away our control) . this is not an argument to not give authority cos it's quite easy to stop with bots and common sense . - conclusion what makes elma the best game is not only all these things i've mentioned . it's also the things which i haven't thought of but other kuskit have . and how they all interfere with eachother . and the most important thing - the variety of things that somehow seems to keep growing . rQ-E% [c0ol] , best __________________________ when writing that article , i realised that elastomania is not a game . elastomania is a "mental disease" . a mania with these symptomes : > höylä - came from the finnish word cheese slicer , with the metaphorical meaning that u lower your time a little bit over and over again like the way u slice a cheese . now "to höyl" is generally used when a kuski plays elma , whereas when a n00b plays it's just "playing" . the difference between höyling and playing comes clear when u urself start to höyl , trust me u'll know ;] . this symptome is most often the path leading to elastomania (the disease) . > addiction - for various reasons not being able to get away from elma related things . > informania - spending time on info related to elma . like only checking best times , or like making web pages , statistics , etc dedicated to elma related things . > sleskness\c0olness - these are two similar symptomes . only a part of kuskit seem to have them . it is a kind of humour that is not appreciated by the authority in elma society (with the double moral - it's annoying , so they punish - which also is annoying. ;) if u want more info on this (which means u have informania) , check out the sites of teams c0ol and SC , and the ppl who are in them . the notorious rQ-E% (csybe ribQt) [c0ol] professor of philosophy
