New versions?

General

Will Balázs make any new Elma versions? When will Elma 2 come? Is there still hope?

The most present official information (spring 2005) is that Balázs has really programmed Elma 2. The release is planned to be in the autumn 2005.

Maybe someone else could code more unofficial versions? In the past Hibernatus has programmed Elma patches but he isn't active anymore. Also milagros has the skills and he is developing some things occasionally (for example anti-cheat patch). Balázs hasn't said any official comments about the unofficial patches. He doesn't support in making them but he isn't against making them either.

Requested features

Below you see a list of the features we (on Moposite) would like to see in the new versions of Elasto Mania:

General features

  • 50-100 brand new levels; it would also be preferred that NONE of the old levels are used for the next version, that's because it's annoying if you have played the original levels since Across 1.0 & 1.2 or Elma; the old levels could be as a separate part with their statistics for those who still want to play the old levels; and no speedloops please
  • Ability to make Elma remember settings after closing (like navigator ON/OFF, timer ON/OFF, and position of the cursor in replay menu for example)
  • Better protection/encrypting for state.dat (anti-reverse-engineering)
  • A fix for Hooked-bug
  • When you select to save a replay, the level's filename (and perhaps the level's title also) would be visible, so you don't have to guess which level you were playing
  • External level list could be a table where the level name, file name, designer, best time, best time's driver, driving date, level designing date, link to more statistics, used LGR and all other necessary information would be visible (perhaps this could be set as to what you want to see)
  • If you select a level, the game would show all the replays you have for that level
  • Some online modes like gaming over internet and intranet, maybe an Elma server (battles)? Could be a multiplayer-patch so the regular game file doesn't expand too much
  • Ability to multiplay with two computers like in the current multiplaying but both would have their own screens
  • To be able to hold down buttons when scrolling lists of replays or levels, to scroll quicker like in Across
  • Longer replays, over 10 minutes or even unlimited
  • Exact time in replays, CTRL-ALT-ENTER must work perfectly!
  • Information should be encrypted in replays: things like the driver name, time and drive date
  • It would also be nice to get rid of the ancient 8-char limit on filenames
  • Different grounds like ice, mud, water (maybe only in external levels) to effect the bike's moving abilities
  • Ability to browse levels outside the main Elma folders so that you wouldn't have to have multiple Elmas for different purposes (like OLP, other externals, cups, etc.)
  • Ability to switch LGRs inside the game
  • Ability to delete whatever time you want in all external and internal levels
  • Bug fixes
  • State.dat back-up option
  • Possibility to play in windowed mode
  • Ability to see statistics inside the game (total time etc.)
  • Limit to bike stretching so there won't be an internal error
  • Last 10 drives saved in temporary directory
  • Able to launch the game by clicking a .lev or .rec file (shell extension)
  • Ability to delete replays inside the game, which actually would move the replays to deleted directory which you can empty later
  • No matter what system you're using, Elma would behave in same way; vsync and stuff like wouldn't have any effects
  • Features of Elma 1.2 unofficial version:
    • Alovolt
    • Centered camera
    • Fast search in file lists
    • Replay merging
    • VCR-style controls when watching a replay
    • Changing resolutions
    • Sky should be the only background or it should be possible to override other backgrounds from options, brick backgrounds are not too nice for eyes (also possible in Elma 1.2)

Level editor

  • Undo button
  • More shortcut keys
  • Remove the limit of vertexes and polygons
  • Possibility to cut and connect different polygons
  • Possibility to make circles, ellipses, squares etc.
  • Possibility to copy polygons, even more if you could copy a polygon from some other level and then paste it to some other
  • Possibility to rotate polygons and make mirror polygons
  • Possibility to set the position of vertex manually (set x and y cordinates)
  • Possibility to get a grid in editor
  • Possibility to move polygons
  • Possibility to change the size of polygon afterwards
  • Possibility to open several levels in the level editor at the same time
  • Possibility to draw shapes with mouse so that the level editor would create the neccesary vertexes
  • Most of the above features are already introduced in ALE (download)

Statistics

  • Logs for being able to generate any kind of stats for third part applications
  • Own statistics for different players in state.dat
  • Top1000 to every level
  • 0,000 accurate
  • Information on how long time (days) and how many tries were required to break a record
  • Efficiency counter for level statistics like:
    • Number of tries (you have tried the level x times)
    • Number of finnished tries (finished x times | yy.yyy%)
    • List of how many personal improvements (broken personal record x times | yy.yyy%)
  • Ending counter, to show how many times you have ended a level by:
    • To the killer: x | yy.yyy%
    • To the ground: x | yy.yyy%
    • By pressing ESC: x | yy.yyy%
    • Other (?)
    • Finished levels to the flower: xx
  • Time- and distance (kilometers?) counters which to show statistics like:
    • Level z played for 3223 hours, 56 minutes, 43.33 seconds | 4433.398 km total distance
  • Average times for top10/top100/top1000 for levels
  • The most popular level (simply: which levels you have driven most, its percentage out of all levels, so if you have driven 200 drives: Warm Up 100 drives, Flat Track 60 drives and Spiral 40 drives, your statistics would look like this:
    • Total drives: 200
    • Warm Up: 100 (50%)
    • Flat Track: 60 (30%)
    • Twin Peaks: 0 (0%)
    • Over and Under: 0 (0%)
    • ...
    • Spiral: 40 (20%)
    • Turnaround: 0 (0%)
    • ...
  • The main idea is that the more statistics the better

Not wanted

  • Better graphics
  • Turbo boost or teleports in any case
  • 3D in any case!
  • Gravity apples (but if there must be ones, there should be some kind of arrows inside the apple showing to which direction it changes the gravity)
  • Gears or tuning up
